Case Study - Polytechnic West

Polytechnic West is Western Australia's largest training provider, enrolling over 30,000 students each year in its vocational education and training programs. Formerly Swan TAFE, Polytechnic West is committed to adapting to the changing training environment in order to deliver the most relevant and in-demand vocational education options.

Project Brief

The main objectives of this project were to provide Polytechnic West with an easy to use and secure interactive application deploying dynamic student examination functionality, and secure administration interface tools including questionnaire and user account creation.

The application exemplifies simplicity to effectively communicate with administrators and students ensuring a user friendly experience.

In designing the application, Loft Creative ensured that the technical directions presented to Polytechnic West were consistent with the original DOS based software specifications.

  • Flexibility for multiple assessments
  • Assessment structure and answer printing capabilities
  • Ability to run on a Microsoft Windows 2003/2008 operating system
  • Capability of being hosted as a virtual application as long the operating system is supported on VMware or any other virutalisation platform
  • Many different question types enabling more efficient answer collection
  • Integration of pictures and movies into an assessment
  • Conditions for questions depending on earlier answers (Skip Logic / Branching)
  • Random question and answer ordering
  • Timed Assessments (restricting completion time to a set time allowance)
  • Sending of invitations, reminders and tokens by email
  • Students can save and finish their assessment at a later time
  • Assessment expiry dates for automation
  • Enhanced import and export functions to text, CSV, PDF and MS Excel
